Inner Wars (the "App") is designed as a safe, anonymous space for emotional support, shared struggles, and healing. We take your privacy extremely seriously. This policy explains what data we collect, how we protect it, and — crucially — your rights and our limitations regarding user-generated content.

⚠️ Important disclaimer – User generated content & no guarantee of harm

Inner Wars is a platform where users share personal experiences, thoughts, and feelings. We do not control, moderate in real-time, or endorse any user-generated content (posts, messages, profile names, audio when available). While we enforce community guidelines and take reports seriously, we cannot guarantee that you will not encounter content that may be triggering, offensive, or emotionally distressing.

By using Inner Wars, you acknowledge that:
• You are solely responsible for your emotional well-being when interacting with the community.
• The App is provided “as is” and we make no warranty that all content will be safe or suitable for you.
• We are not liable for any psychological harm, offense, or distress resulting from exposure to user-generated material.
• We do not provide medical or therapeutic advice — if you are in crisis, please contact a licensed professional or emergency helpline immediately.

     
    We take reports very seriously. If you see content that violates our rules (harassment, threats, self-harm glorification, hate speech), please report it immediately using the in-app reporting tools. Our team investigates all reports within 24 hours and will remove violating content, suspend users, or involve legal authorities if necessary.
  

1. Information we collect

Because anonymity is our core principle, we minimize data collection:

anonymous Anonymous identifier – Firebase Anonymous Auth UID (no email, no phone).
username Self-chosen username & avatar – generated via Robohash.org (no real names required).
heart Emotional categories – issues you select (e.g., breakup, grief, job loss) to personalize your feed and matching.
📝 Posts & messages – text content you voluntarily share in feeds, circles (future audio), and chats.
⚙️ Usage data – app opens, streak counts, “Me Too” interactions (aggregated for trending features).

We never collect: real name, phone number, email address, precise location, contacts, or device identifiers beyond standard Firebase analytics (which you can opt-out via device settings).

2. User-generated content & community responsibility

All posts, comments, usernames, and any future audio in circles are created by users like you. Inner Wars does not pre-screen content and acts as a neutral platform for free expression. However, we enforce strict rules against:

Inciting violence, self-harm, or suicide (we will report to authorities).
Hate speech, discrimination, or targeted harassment.
Spam, impersonation, or sharing others’ private information (doxxing).

Reporting mechanism: Every post and chat includes a report flag. Once reported, our safety team reviews the content within 24 hours. Users who repeatedly violate policies may be permanently banned, and we may preserve certain data for legal compliance.

Limitation of liability for UGC: You agree that Inner Wars and its developers are not responsible for the accuracy, usefulness, safety, or intellectual property rights of any user-generated content. If you suffer emotional distress, offense, or any harm due to another user’s content, your sole recourse is to report the content and discontinue using the platform. We do not guarantee conflict resolution between users.

3. How we protect your anonymity

No real identity linkage: We never ask for personal identifiers. Your anonymous UID is known only to Firebase systems.
No cross-referencing: We do not correlate your in-app activity with any external social media or identity.
Erase functionality: You can delete your posts, erase entire chat threads, or fully wipe your account via Profile → Delete Account (all data removed from Firestore).
Chats have no read receipts, no typing indicators to preserve psychological safety.

4. Data retention & deletion

We retain your posts and interactions as long as your account is active. If you delete your account:

All posts, ‘Me Too’ clicks, and chat messages are permanently removed from Firestore within 48 hours.
Anonymous usage analytics (aggregated) may be kept for platform improvement but stripped of any user-level identifiers.
Backups are deleted within 30 days.

To request manual deletion (if you lose access), email [email protected] with your anonymous UID (found in settings).

5. Third-party services & Firebase

We rely on trusted infrastructure:

Firebase (Google): Authentication, Firestore database, cloud functions. Data is stored on Google Cloud servers (region: us-central1 by default). Firebase’s privacy policy applies to infrastructure-level data handling.
Robohash.org: Avatar generation based on username — no personal data shared, only public GET request.
SharedPreferences (local): Stores your theme preference, username & avatar locally on your device — never sent to third parties.

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your personal data to advertisers or any external company. Anonymous analytics help us understand “Me Too” trends but no individual tracking.

6. Children’s privacy & age restriction

Inner Wars is intended for users aged 16 and older (or age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we discover such data, we will delete it immediately. If you are a parent and believe your child under 13 uses our app, contact us for removal.

7. Reporting harmful content — your role

We take every report with urgency. If you experience or witness:

Direct threats or encouragement of suicide/self-harm
Harassment or stalking
Predatory behaviour
Content that violates applicable law

Report via the ⚐ flag button on any post or chat. You can also email [email protected] (encrypted). We will investigate within 24 hours, take down violating content, and cooperate with law enforcement if required.

Emergency? If you are in immediate danger or having suicidal thoughts, please call your local emergency number or suicide prevention lifeline. Inner Wars is not a crisis service.

8. No guarantee of harm-free experience – full acknowledgment

YOU EXPRESSLY AGREE THAT USE OF INNER WARS IS AT YOUR SOLE RISK. The nature of anonymous communities means that despite our moderation efforts, some content may be emotionally challenging, upsetting, or offensive. We do not guarantee that you will not feel hurt, distressed, or triggered. By continuing to use the app, you accept full responsibility for managing your emotional reactions and seeking professional help when needed. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT REGARDING USER CONTENT.

9. Changes to this policy & your choices

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via an in-app alert or on this page. You can always delete your account and data at any time inside Profile → Danger Zone → Delete Account. Continued use after changes indicates acceptance of the updated terms.
